A few weeks ago my sister and I headed off to the BABOR Beauty Spa in Morningside. We were both excited for what the morning would hold in store for us. We were welcomed into a beautifully furnished spa that made us feel so very special. The coffee was served and the prettiest cupcakes from Forever Cupcakes were on offer as we sat down and were introduced to the DOCTOR BABOR BODY CELLULAR Range. The first thing I noticed was that these products are encased in luxurious and expensive looking metalized bottles. This range is definitely indulgence at its best. The range encompasses six products that are aimed at dealing with female problem areas like the bust area, stretch marks, cellulite and spider veins. Each of their products contains plant-based active ingredients that improve the skin structure. We sniffed, tested and perused the whole range and oohed and aaahed whilst feeling the quality of these luxury products on our skin. The BABOR Ultimate Cooling Leg Refiner for example is a cooling gel-cream that brings relief to heavy legs and spider veins. It has the nicest cooling sensation and after a long day I can't think of anything better then rubbing this gel on your tired legs.

We then headed off to a beautiful and tranquil, darkened spa room after the presentation and were pampered with a relaxing DOCTOR BABOR Body Cellular express body treatment that targeted our legs, mainly to help with reducing cellulite. I've been for massages before, but nothing quite like this before. I was instantly relaxed from the moment the therapist started. She worked a thick salty scrub into our legs and massaged deep into the tissue and I honestly felt like I had new legs after the session. The blood was really circulating and my legs had an almost tingling sensation. A few treatments and I think you'll see a remarkable difference in your cellulite. We then sat down and had our hands treated to a bit of TLC. We chose pretty colours (I chose Lucky, Lucky Lavendar from OPI) and even got a bit of bling on our ring fingers, in the shape of a flower. ;)

We both had a fabulous morning at the BABOR Beauty Spa and I would definitely go back. The ladies are extremely friendly, accommodating and smiling and willing to answer any questions. I also think the prices are extremely reasonable when compared to other spa's I've been to. Thanks BABOR for all the spoils and treats and making us feel like royalty for a day.

The  ULTIMATE LIPOFILL BUST Lotion  is such a beautiful cream and is great for the winter months when the skin on women’s breasts need that extra attention and care. The Power of Presentation

BABOR attended THE POWER OF PRESENTATION breakfast on the 17^th of May hosted by the South African Spa Association. It was a fantastic and informative morning and a great opportunity to mix with the industry experts.  Dr Nadine de Freitas presented an excellent presentation on the 10 Effective Methods in creating buzz for your spa, salon or brand.

I have taken the opportunity today to share Nadine’ s methods with you, each method is a step in the right direction to creating the buzz and energy that your business needs to really stand out amoung others similar to you.

1)      Build a spa brand: Your spa brand is of vital importance and needs to be forethought, not an afterthought. Decide what you want your brand to represent and turn this into your brand vision.

2)      Name: The naming of your salon or spa should be a really thought out process. Make sure to use a unique name that really says something about your business. Your salon or spa name needs to be memorable and engaging - you want your current and potential client to feel a sense of belonging through your name.

3)      Go green: Health and wellness is the new trend going into 2013. Clients need to feel that they are connected to nature in some way. Going green does not mean stocking only organic products – recycle, create a tranquil garden space, a water feature or koi pond, the options are endless. You just need to ensure that a sense of health and wellbeing is experienced by the client when visiting your business.

4)      Create buzz worthy events: Make sure that your salon or spa holds events from time to time. It’s very important to keep your clients interested and excited about future plans for your business. Invite VIP clients to a pamper morning, how about a reflexology workshop or a beauty confidence talk by a BABOR professional.  

5)      Capture the data: All information is important. Make sure that your data base is updated and all information is correct.

    

6)      Stay in the headlines: Remember to keep sending out information to the media. It is much easier than you think to stay connected with the beauty editors and media interested in the beauty industry. New product launches, treatments or staff will be of interest to the general public. Make this known!

7)      Press Releases: This method fits in with the method above. Make sure that you introduce the media to news via press releases. If you are unable to put press releases together, employ a PR agency to assist you with this.

8)      Design: The design of your business is very important. Clients enjoy an environment that is relaxed and comfortable yet stylish at the same time. Use colours, wallpaper, images and posters to add to the design of your salon or spa. Make sure that your brand is represented in your design.

9)      Promotions: Keep the excitement and interest of your clients going through promotions. Run a new promotion every month to keep clients coming back for more and make sure to display these promotions through your spa so that your clients are aware of the current promotion.

 

10)   Capture the Audience: Display windows or areas outside of your salon or spa are advertising outlets on their own. Make sure that people passing your business are aware of what product you stock and the treatments you offer.

BABOR Cape Town Beauty Launch

BABOR cosmetics recently held the BABOR Beauty Editors Launch in Cape Town. It was fantastic to finally put names to faces and meet the ladies behind the beauty editorials and fabulous beauty blogs. The event was held at the Cape Royale Hotel http://www.caperoyale.co.za/ on a rainy and windy Friday and although the sun was not shining, the beauty of BABOR shone through.

 

Nadia Smith, BABOR’s Cape Town representative went through a stunning presentation about BABOR, focusing on our core range SKINOVAGE^PX, HSR, the beautiful BABOR promotions and DR BABOR. The ladies that attended the launch thoroughly enjoyed learning more about BABOR and it was great to share our passion and knowledge of our beautiful brand with them.

Adult Acne: BABOR has the answers!

What is adult acne?

Adult acne (acne tarda) is when blemishes and problematic skin conditions experienced during the teenage years carry on into adulthood. Dermatologists estimate that around every one in four women will suffer from acne tarda between the ages of 25 and 45.

 

Adult acne is different to teenage acne because someone with teenage acne or “Acne Vulgaris” tends to be far oilier than someone with adult acne. Affected areas tend to be slightly different as well. Adult acne tends to appear on the lower half of the face, including the chin and jaw line, whilst teen acne will include the forehead and follow a “t-zone” pattern. Adult acne is also much more common in women than in men.

 

 

There is a different reason for acne in adults and in teens, teen acne occurs in response to the natural hormonal fluctuations experienced during puberty. Teenage acne should clear up once the individual reaches adulthood and the hormones have settled down while adult acne more often than not is also caused by fluctuating hormone levels, the major culprit being increased levels of testosterone. In women imbalance can be caused by pregnancy, stopping the contraceptive pill and menopause. However factors such as stress, incorrect cosmetic usage, certain medications and extreme climatic conditions also cause adult acne.

Unfortunately many of the acne treatments on the market today are geared towards teen acne and tend to cause excessive dryness in someone who has adult acne. Adult acne can also be more difficult to control because the skin is more sensitive and easily irritated from these drying treatments. It is essential when treating adult acne not to strip away the acid mantle (the skin’s protective barrier) and to keep the skin well hydrated.

 

Blemishes in adult acne are often caused by increased levels of testosterone. Testosterone is converted into dihydotestosterone (DHT) with the aid of certain enzymes. This enlarges the sebaceous glands (oil glands) and thus increases oil production. Blockages occur in the excretory ducts, which can become inflamed and cause pimples on the surface of the skin. Bacteria invades the site and infection can occur.

Instead of drying out the excess oil from the outside, we can inhibit the enzyme activity from the inside that is responsible for the excess oil flow and inflammation. The oil flow is significantly reduced and the pore size minimized. Products that contain an ingredient called African Whitewood extract can inhibit these enzymes.

Welcome to 2013!!

We hope you’ve all started the year on a productive and happy note. The BABOR team has come back to work with special memories of holiday laughter, joy and happiness and we are hoping that you are as ready to take on 2013 as we are.   Although the Christmas break was fabulous for all BABOR team members we are happy to be back at the head office and are ready to get the BABOR ball rolling once again.

2012 was a great year for BABOR and BABOR stockists and we know that this year is going to be bigger and better. We just can’t wait!  We hope our clients are as excited as we are for what lies ahead in the New Year.  We have some special and unique products and promotions on the way and look forward to sharing the excitement with you all. The first BABOR marketing meeting will be taking place towards the end of January. These marketing meetings are a great platform for brainstorming, discussion and planning amoung team members and management.
